Is it okay to blow dry hair everyday?

If your morning routine consists of rolling out of bed, showering, and reaching for the blow dryer, you may be wondering if it’s okay to blow dry your hair every day. Unfortunately, it gets hot, so using a blow dryer (or flat iron, or curling iron) every day is a bad idea. Daily heat can damage hair by stripping it of its natural oils, drying out the cuticle and causing breakage and frizz. But don’t worry—you don’t have to give up blow-drying altogether! With a few simple changes to your style, you can have beautiful hair every day AND keep your hair healthy for years. Here are some ways to look good every day without drying it out:

Blow dry every 3-5 days.

If you blow dry your hair properly, your hair should last for several days. Instead of blow-drying your hair every day (which may not dry your hair completely), take extra time every 3-5 days to properly section your hair and dry each section with a round brush. And don’t forget the product! Use a light finishing spray after drying your hair, and extend your style with a dry shampoo or conditioner.

Use the lowest heat required.

Go easy on the heat when you dry your hair. Let your hair dry as much as possible (at least 50% dry for gray hair and 70-80% dry for dry hair), then use heat to shape and style. Keep the nozzle safely away from your hair, keeping it stable and avoiding over-drying.

Master the art of air drying.

Many people don’t like air drying because it dries out their hair. But brushing your hair every now and then and letting your hair air dry can make a big difference in keeping your nails looking nice and healthy. To prevent frizz, use a moisturizing conditioner in the shower and apply the product after showering. The best air-drying product depends on your hair type– try a light moisturizing cream for fine/straight hair, an oil-lotion hybrid for fine hair, or a hydrating serum for fine hair.

Take a hot shower.
